Mushroom Genie
Inject and Grow Instructions
You will need:
Mushroom Genie Kit
Spore or Mycelium Syringe
Nitrile or latex gloves laboratory gloves
Spray bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol
Lighter
Inject the Mushroom Genie
1. Sanitize Mushroom Genie Kit bag, spore or mycelium syringe, work area, hands.
2. Put on gloves and sanitize gloves
3. Wait until alcohol sprayed on the bag has evaporated
4. Remove sterile needle from packaging, remove protective tip from syringe, and attach needle.
5. Remove the plastic cover from needle and burn the tip of the needle with the lighter until it's red hot. Wait until it cools down before injecting the needle into the black self-healing injection port. (Image 1) We recommend a minimum of 3cc of mycelium or spores solution.
Storage and Colonization
Allow your bag to rest undisturbed in a shaded area. Maintain an incubation temperature between 60 and 80 degrees F to promote optimal growth.
After a few weeks, mycelium will grow on the substrate. Watch for the white mycelium spreading from the injection point. Break up and mix colonized and uncolonized substrate to speed up colonization.
Initiate Fruiting
After your bag has colonized completely you are ready to initiate fruiting.
1. Cut a 3 inch slit two inches from the top of the bag on both sides. (the filter patch side and the back side)
2. Let the bag sit until baby mushrooms start to appear on the top of the substrate then cut off the entire top following the slit lines.
3. As the mushrooms continue to grow, spray water on the inside walls of the bag to maintain humidity
From injection to fully colonized can be about 2 to 3 weeks. Once you initiate fruiting, that can be about 1 week or more depending on environmental conditions.
