How to Grow Oyster Mushrooms in a Hay Bed: Tips for Home Gardeners

5. Harvest at the right time: Oyster mushrooms can be harvested when the caps are fully developed and just before they start to flatten out. Simply twist and pull the mushrooms to remove them from the substrate.

6. Store and use the mushrooms: Oyster mushrooms are best consumed fresh, but if you have too many, you can store them in a paper bag in the refrigerator for up to a week. They can be sautéed, grilled, added to soups or stews, or used as a meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.
